Community Unity is regarded as a motto that is essential to growth and development by many organizations in the Space Coast, and two of the performing arts ensembles in the area have lived this expression for ten years. When the Florida Space Coast Philharmonic (now the Space Coast Pops) was just five years old, it took under its wings the fledgling Melbourne Community Orchestra so it would have connections to all the bureaucratic complexities the field of music and musicians must cope with. Ten years have past and the professional Pops and the volunteer MCO are now playing to full houses in their individual styles. However, there is a coincidence when we see the program themes of the two groups for the coming week. Without any collaboration whatsoever, the Pops is presenting a salute to the music of Glenn Miller in Glenn Miller and Friends concert while the MCO presents A Salute to the Ladies as it's next concert theme.
Maestro Witold Dobrzynski will lead the orchestra in its tribute to the Ladies with the full orchestra presentation of Hello Dolly, Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, Bizet's Carmen, and Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story with Maria. Other selections include The Rosemunde Overture by Franz Schubert and the Finale of the three movement Symencius Symphony by orchestra member Alan Moss. Space Coast Release 3/22/02 ~ Robert Bauer
