"Bach To Basics"

One of the final performances of the summer season is the PICNIC POPS SERIES of the Melbourne Community Orchestra. BACH TO BASICS is the theme of the concert being presented at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 8 and 9 in the Melbourne Auditorium at 625 East Hibiscus Blvd.

Six years ago the Orchestra Board decided to do something different, so the Picnic Pops Concerts were created. Lighter music is performed in an insect-free, rain-safe, non-smoking and air conditioned environment where entire families as well as singles and couples lay back and enjoy their picnic dinners and listen to a program designed to please all tastes. No alcoholic beverages, please.

Conductor Maestro Witold Dobrzynski chose to add several classics to the program. They are Gluck’s overture to an opera Iphigenia in Aulis and Bach’s Double Concerto for Two Violins and String Ensemble in D minor.  Performing the Double Concerto are two young ladies brought from Chicago by the Maestro.

The rest of the program includes pop selections such as Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther and Moon River, Night and Day by Cole Porter, a medley of Sinatra’s songs in a Salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes plus Alfie, Lady of Spain, Merry Widow Waltz and Take me Home Country Roads..

Admission is free but tickets are required. Call 752-7955 for ticket outlets and information. Concessions will have ice, drinks and snacks.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
